The IBRO-FENS / IBRO-PERC Exchange Fellowships Programme 2026 is a funded international mobility opportunity designed to support early-career neuroscience researchers in Europe. The programme enables short-term laboratory exchange visits that allow participants to acquire new techniques, strengthen collaborations, and enhance the scientific impact of their research.
The IBRO-FENS / IBRO-PERC Exchange Fellowships Programme 2026 promotes capacity building, skills transfer, and cross-institutional collaboration within the European neuroscience community.
Programme Overview
The IBRO-FENS / IBRO-PERC Exchange Fellowships Programme provides financial support to Master’s students, PhD candidates, and early postdoctoral researchers in neuroscience to carry out short research visits in a host laboratory within Europe.
The exchange is designed to complement ongoing research by offering access to specialised techniques, methodologies, or expertise that may not be available in the applicant’s home institution.
Fellowship Benefits and Funding
Selected fellows can receive up to €4,000 EUR to support their exchange visit.
What the Grant Covers
- Economy-class travel costs
- Local public transportation
- Accommodation expenses during the exchange period
Payment Structure
- 60% of the grant is paid before the start of the fellowship
- 40% is paid after completion of the exchange and submission of the final report
Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a Master’s or PhD student in neuroscience, or an early postdoctoral researcher (within five years of starting their postdoctoral position)
- Be based in Europe
- Be a member of:
- A FENS member society, or
- An individual FENS membership, or
- An IBRO organisation in the Pan-Europe region that is not a FENS member
- Have a confirmed host laboratory willing to receive them
- Provide a recommendation letter from their home supervisor
Selection Criteria
Applications are competitively reviewed based on the following:
- Scientific quality and training value of the proposed project
- Relevance and added value of the exchange to the applicant’s research and home laboratory
- Suitability and motivation of the applicant
- Feasibility of the research plan, timeline, and expected outcomes
Required Application Components
Applicants are typically required to prepare and submit:
- A detailed research and exchange proposal
- An acceptance letter from the host laboratory
- A recommendation letter from the home supervisor
- A clear budget and timeline
- Supporting documents such as a CV and academic records
All applications must be submitted through the official application platform.
Location and Mobility Scope
The programme supports intra-European mobility and is open exclusively to neuroscience researchers who are currently based in Europe. Exchange visits must take place at eligible host institutions within the region.
