Designed to support emerging voices in digital policy and governance, the Internet Society Youth Ambassador Program 2026 provides a comprehensive, year-long learning and leadership opportunity. This global initiative empowers young people to strengthen their expertise, expand their networks, and contribute meaningfully to internet development worldwide. As one of the most respected youth-focused internet governance programmes, it continues to build skilled ambassadors ready to champion an open, secure, and inclusive Internet.
About the Opportunity
The programme selects 15 exceptional young leaders aged 18–30 from across the world to become Youth Ambassadors. Over a 12-month period, participants engage in structured training, mentorship, and leadership development activities that prepare them to contribute to internet governance in their local and global communities.
Ambassadors benefit from expert-led courses, high-level engagements, capacity-building programmes, and attendance at a major Internet governance event. The opportunity is ideal for young people committed to digital rights, advocacy, community impact, and policy development.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be 18–30 years old at the time of application.
- Be fluent in English (writing, reading, speaking).
- Be comfortable with public speaking and presenting ideas clearly.
- Have reliable internet access and necessary equipment for active participation.
- Commit to at least 4 hours per week throughout the 12-month programme.
- Be available for weekly webinars/meetings, typically between 11:00 and 16:00 UTC.
- Possess a valid passport and be able to travel internationally if selected.
- Must not have previously been selected for specific Internet Society youth programmes such as IGF Ambassador, IGF Youth Ambassador, or Youth@IGF.

Programme Curriculum
The curriculum provides a multi-layered learning experience and includes:

- Project Management Course – Practical training to help participants design and implement impactful initiatives.
- Advocacy and Communications Training – Guidance on effective communication, storytelling, and influencing diverse audiences.
- Leadership and Entrepreneurship Sessions – Capacity-building for long-term career and community impact.
- Mentorship Programme – One-on-one support from experienced mentors in the international governance ecosystem.
- Internet Society Course Modules – Required learning modules culminating in a “Champion” certificate.
- End-of-Programme Symposium – A virtual space for ambassadors to showcase achievements and discuss future plans.

Selection Process
- Initial Online Application Review
- Applications are reviewed by a selection committee consisting of staff, alumni, and community leaders.
- A blind review process ensures fairness and impartiality.
- Candidates are evaluated based on alignment with the Internet Society’s mission, leadership potential, past engagements, and clarity of vision.
- Internet Governance Course
- Shortlisted candidates participate in an online governance course.
- Each applicant is assigned to a small tutor-led group.
- Performance during this course determines the top 15 finalists who will become Youth Ambassadors.
Additional Information / Terms
- Participation is fully online except for the selected global event, for which travel arrangements depend on individual circumstances.
- Ambassadors must commit to the full duration of the programme and actively engage in all activities.
- The programme is highly competitive, and applicants are strongly encouraged to demonstrate dedication, vision, and long-term commitment to internet governance.
