This year-long fellowship empowers Indigenous women to strengthen leadership, advocate for rights, and drive sustainable change at the community level.
About the Land is Life Indigenous Women Program 2026
The Land is Life Indigenous Women Program 2026 is designed to support Indigenous women and their organisations as they work to assert rights over land and natural resources, improve livelihoods, and amplify women’s voices in leadership and decision-making spaces.
This global initiative creates a platform for women to grow their skills, build networks, and lead transformative projects that uplift Indigenous communities.
Programme Objectives
The programme aims to:
- Strengthen the leadership capacity of Indigenous women.
- Promote active participation of women in decision-making spaces.
- Support community-driven projects that promote rights, biodiversity, and sustainable livelihoods.
- Foster a global network of Indigenous women leaders advocating for change.
Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows will receive comprehensive mentoring, financial support, and training to help them design and implement community projects.
Key benefits include:
- Personalised Mentoring: Receive guidance from experienced Indigenous women leaders.
- Project Funding: Up to USD $3,000 to design and implement a community-level project.
- Stipend Support: A total of USD $3,600 to support active participation throughout the year.
- Monthly Capacity-Building Sessions: Participate in training focused on Indigenous Peoples’ rights, advocacy, and sustainable development.
- Networking Opportunities: Connect with regional and global partners working to advance Indigenous rights.
- Advocacy Support: Gain access to national and international spaces for decision-making and representation.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Land is Life Indigenous Women Program 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Identify as an Indigenous woman between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Be actively engaged in community or organisational work promoting Indigenous rights.
- Have a clear idea for a project benefiting your community.
- Must not have been a previous Land is Life fellow.
Fellowship Commitments
Successful fellows are expected to:
- Design and implement a community project within approximately 10 months.
- Actively promote Indigenous Peoples’ rights, particularly the inclusion and empowerment of women and girls.
- Attend monthly online training sessions and participate in peer learning activities.
- Share insights and lessons learned with other Indigenous women networks.
Priority Areas for Community Projects
Applicants are encouraged to submit project proposals focusing on any of the following areas:
- Capacity building and leadership development.
- Biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management.
- Climate action and environmental justice.
- Improved livelihoods and food security.
- Governance, advocacy, and women’s empowerment within Indigenous communities.
Application Guidelines
Interested applicants can submit their applications either in written form or via video submission.
Written Application
Complete the official online application form (link below). Applicants must describe their proposed community project, objectives, expected outcomes, and how it benefits Indigenous women and their communities.
Video Application Option
If you are unable to complete the written form, you may submit a video (up to 15 minutes) in English, French, or Spanish.
Your video must:
- Answer all the questions in the written application form.
- Include an oral acceptance of the programme’s terms at the end.
- Be saved in MP3 or MP4 format.
- Be emailed to the address provided in the official application link.
Application Deadline
All applications must be submitted by 5 November 2025. Early submissions are strongly encouraged, as late entries will not be considered.
