About the Nordic Africa Institute African Scholarship Programme 2027
The Nordic Africa Institute African Scholarship Programme 2027 is designed to strengthen Africa-oriented research and promote collaboration between African scholars and the Nordic academic community.
Selected scholars will undertake a 60–90 day research stay at the Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala, Sweden. During this period, scholars gain access to world-class research facilities, academic networks, and a specialised library dedicated to contemporary African studies.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
1. PhD Candidates
- Enrolled in an Africa-based doctoral programme
- Employed full-time at an African university or research centre
- Not receiving international PhD funding
2. Postdoctoral Researchers
- Within four years of completing a PhD
- Employed at an African university or research centre
Only early-career researchers currently based in Africa are eligible to apply.
Duration of Stay
The research visit typically lasts between 60 and 90 days. Scholars will conduct independent research while engaging with the academic community at the Nordic Africa Institute.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following documents (in English):
- A detailed CV, including a list of publications
- A research project outline (approximately five pages)
- A clear work plan for the research stay
- A signed letter of support from a supervisor or head of department
