The Call for Mentors and Supervisors for the KCFP Climate Resilience Fellowships 2026 is now open. The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is inviting experienced professionals and academics to contribute to the King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP) by supporting fellows working to strengthen climate adaptation and resilience across the Commonwealth’s Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The KCFP Climate Resilience Fellowships 2026 offer a one-year, accredited professional development experience designed to enhance practical climate adaptation knowledge and leadership. The programme supports professionals from Commonwealth SIDS to lead transformative, evidence-based solutions addressing the pressing challenges of climate change.
About the Programme
The King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP) is inspired by His Majesty King Charles III’s long-standing commitment to the environment and sustainable development. The Climate Resilience Fellowships are part of this initiative, focusing on equipping mid-career professionals from SIDS with the tools, expertise, and networks required to advance local climate adaptation practices.
Through mentorship and academic supervision, the programme bridges the gap between theory and practice, encouraging collaboration between academia and industry to drive resilient, scalable solutions in climate adaptation.
Roles Available
1. Academic Supervisors
Who They Are:
Academic Supervisors are university-based experts in climate adaptation and related disciplines.
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic guidance and supervision to fellows as they design and implement workplace-based applied projects.
- Ensure that projects align with climate resilience and adaptation objectives.
- Support fellows in linking research insights to real-world applications.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be employed at an ACU member university.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following fields:
- Climate science
- Environmental policy
- Adaptation planning
- Disaster risk reduction
- Renewable energy
- Community-based adaptation
2. Professional Mentors
Who They Are:
Professional Mentors are leaders from NGOs, government agencies, private sector entities, or community organisations engaged in climate adaptation efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Provide practical, place-based mentoring and support for fellows’ applied projects.
- Guide fellows in addressing real-world challenges related to climate resilience.
- Share sectoral insights, technical expertise, and contextual knowledge.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be employed at a registered organisation or be self-employed.
- Must have significant experience in climate adaptation practice.
- Should possess relevant cultural, technical, and contextual understanding of adaptation challenges in their region.
Benefits and Honorarium
Selected Academic Supervisors and Professional Mentors will receive an honorarium of £200 as appreciation for their contribution to the programme.
