The Clore Fellowship Programme 2026–2027 is one of the UK’s leading leadership development initiatives for professionals working across arts, culture and heritage. It provides an unparalleled opportunity for leaders to reflect, experiment and develop new approaches to leadership in the cultural sector.

Fellows come from diverse disciplines including museums, performing arts, heritage, libraries, archives, film, digital media, cultural policy and more. The programme is built to nurture innovation, encourage collaboration, and inspire impactful leadership across all creative sectors.


Who Can Apply

The fellowship is aimed at leaders with ambition, vision and a proven track record of making a difference in the cultural sphere. Applicants should typically have a minimum of seven years of leadership or change-making experience, although there are special early-career fellowships (known as Excellerate Fellowships) for those with at least five years of experience.

Candidates must currently be working in a leadership or influential role and should be able to demonstrate:

  • A clear vision for their leadership journey
  • A record of achievement and influence in the cultural field
  • A commitment to personal and professional growth
  • An openness to reflection, feedback, and peer learning
  • A drive to effect positive change within the cultural ecosystem

Programme Duration

The fellowship runs from September 2026 to May 2027, spanning approximately nine months. It combines residential learning, secondments, mentoring, and self-directed projects, providing fellows with the time and resources to explore their leadership potential deeply.


Programme Benefits

Selected fellows will enjoy a rich and immersive experience that includes:

  • Residential Courses: Two immersive residential sessions (5–10 days each) that bring fellows together for intensive leadership development. Travel, accommodation, and meals are fully covered.
  • Fellows’ Assembly: An interactive online gathering that connects cultural leaders from the UK and beyond.
  • 360° Leadership Profile: A comprehensive assessment designed to enhance leadership awareness and skills.
  • Secondment: A 6–8 week placement within a UK cultural organisation, ideally outside the fellow’s usual area of expertise, to gain fresh perspectives and professional insight.
  • Development Budget: Up to £4,000 to support self-directed learning activities such as conferences, study visits, or courses.
  • Bursary: A £14,000 stipend for UK-based fellows to support their time away from professional work.
  • Mentoring and Coaching: Personalised one-to-one guidance from experienced leaders.
  • Research and Collaborative Projects: Opportunities to conduct leadership research, produce a provocation piece, and engage in collaborative inquiry projects.
  • Access Budget: Dedicated financial support for D/deaf, disabled, or neurodivergent fellows, as well as those with caring responsibilities, ensuring accessibility and inclusion.

Commitment Required

All fellows are expected to participate fully in the programme, which includes both in-person and online components. Attendance at the residential courses, assemblies, and workshops is mandatory, alongside engagement in secondments, coaching sessions, and self-led projects.
