The International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition 2026 (IAAC 2026) is a free, online science competition designed for students and young people from around the world who are passionate about astronomy and astrophysics. The competition provides an opportunity to deepen knowledge, develop problem-solving skills, and compete with participants globally in a fun and challenging academic environment.


Who Can Participate?

The IAAC 2026 is open to participants worldwide and is divided into three age categories:

  • Junior – Grade 10 and below (Under 16 years)
  • Youth – Grades 11–13 (Under 19 years)
  • Senior – University students and older (19+ years)

Participants may be current high school students or university students, depending on their age group.


Competition Structure & How It Works

The competition begins with a Qualification Round, which includes five astronomy problems that cover a range of topics and difficulty levels. Participants submit their answers online before the deadline, and those who score high enough progress to later stages such as the Pre-Final Round and beyond.

The IAAC 2026 challenges students to think critically and apply scientific knowledge beyond what is typically taught in school.
