Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have at least five years of professional journalism experience (freelancers are eligible).
  • Be currently working as a journalist and intend to return to journalism after the fellowship.
  • Work primarily in journalism (applications from public relations, corporate communications, or public affairs professionals are not accepted).
  • Demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency to participate fully in seminars and academic discussions.
  • Be from any country — the fellowship is open to journalists worldwide.

Financial Coverage (Fully Funded)

Most selected fellows receive comprehensive financial support, which typically includes:

  • Full coverage of programme fees
  • Monthly stipend of £2,000 to cover accommodation and living expenses
  • Travel costs to and from the United Kingdom
  • Visa costs

Fellows are expected to commit fully to the programme and are not permitted to undertake professional work during the fellowship period.


Fellowship Experience and Activities

During the fellowship, participants will:

  • Conduct independent research on a journalism-related topic of their choice.
  • Participate in seminars, workshops and lectures led by leading journalists, researchers and media experts.
  • Engage in discussions on global media trends, press freedom, digital transformation and journalistic ethics.
  • Network with an international cohort of experienced journalists from diverse backgrounds.
  • Access Oxford University’s libraries and academic facilities.

  3. One-page motivation statement (PDF) explaining interest in the fellowship.

  5. Two reference letters (PDF) from individuals familiar with the applicant’s professional work.
