The LIFT Digital Cinema Residency 2026 is an exceptional opportunity for emerging filmmakers and digital media artists in Canada to develop, create, and refine their digital cinema projects in a professional and supportive environment. Organized by the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT), this fully funded residency provides financial support, access to world-class production facilities, and mentorship to help participants bring their creative visions to life.
Running from January 12 to March 31, 2026, the residency offers a comprehensive platform for artistic and technical development in the field of digital cinema.
Residency Duration and Location
The residency will take place full-time over 11 weeks at LIFT’s facilities in Toronto, Canada, offering participants the resources, space, and community support required to complete a new digital cinema project.
Funding and Support
Selected participants will receive:
- Up to CAD $8,000 in funding, paid as an hourly wage for 40 hours per week throughout the residency period.
- In-kind equipment and facility support valued at up to CAD $3,000, granting access to professional-grade tools and post-production resources.
This combination of funding and in-kind support enables filmmakers to focus on creative exploration without financial constraints.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the LIFT Digital Cinema Residency 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be aged between 18 and 30 years old.
- Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Refugee currently residing in Canada.
- Live within commuting distance of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
- Have completed post-secondary education (college, university, or equivalent training).
- Self-identify as under-employed and seeking professional development within the digital cinema field.
Application Requirements
Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive proposal package that demonstrates both creative vision and technical competence. The application must include:
- A detailed artist statement outlining creative interests, goals, and project concept.
- A proposal for a new digital cinema work to be developed during the residency.
- A curriculum vitae (CV) of no more than two pages, highlighting relevant education and experience.
- A budget plan (maximum two pages) specifying how funds and resources will be used.
- Visual support materials showcasing previous work (up to three examples).
- Two professional references attesting to the applicant’s skills and artistic potential.
