Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars MSc-HPE Programme 2025–2026:

  • Age: Must be 35 years or younger at the time of application (exceptions may apply to applicants with disabilities).
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen or resident of an African country, or hold recognised refugee status in Africa.
  • Education: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (official transcript and degree certificate are required).
  • Experience: Preferably have experience in teaching, supervision, or educational leadership within a health-related higher education setting, or show strong evidence of teaching potential.
  • Institutional Endorsement: If currently employed, applicants must provide a signed and stamped recommendation letter from their institution confirming:
    • Support for the applicant’s participation in the programme.
    • That the applicant will have dedicated time for both online and in-person sessions.
  • Degree Restriction: Applicants already holding a master’s degree are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Programme Structure

The MSc-HPE programme follows a flexible blended format, allowing participants to balance study with professional responsibilities.

  • Online Modules: Cover core areas such as curriculum design, educational leadership, quality assurance, and research methodology.
  • In-Person Intensive Sessions: Held at UGHE’s state-of-the-art campus in Rwanda, offering immersive, collaborative learning experiences.
