The WomenLift Health East Africa Leadership Journey 2026 is now open for applications. This fully-funded, year-long leadership programme is designed to empower mid-to-senior level women leaders in health across East Africa. The programme provides participants with practical tools, mentorship, coaching, and a powerful network to help them advance their leadership journey, increase their influence, and create lasting impact in the health sector.


About the WomenLift Health East Africa Leadership Journey 2026

The WomenLift Health East Africa Leadership Journey 2026 is a 12-month immersive leadership programme tailored specifically for women in public health. It equips participants to:

  • Explore authentic leadership through vulnerability and reflection.
  • Gain contextual tools and frameworks to navigate challenges in public health.
  • Build stronger professional networks, visibility, voice, and influence.
  • Drive transformation at individual, organisational, and societal levels.

The programme is carefully designed to strengthen leadership capacity while connecting women leaders to mentors, peers, and allies across the region and globally.


Programme Components

Selected participants will engage in the following:

  • Immersive In-Person Residencies – Two key events: Immersion and Lift-Off.
  • Virtual Learning Sessions – Regular touchpoints to build knowledge and share experiences.
  • Group Mentoring – Virtual mentoring circles with experienced leaders.
  • One-on-One Coaching – Tailored leadership support.
  • Health Leadership Project – A self-directed project that demonstrates leadership in action.
  • Networking Opportunities – Connection with a vibrant community of peers, mentors, and allies.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Identify as a woman working in public health policy, practice, or research.
  • Have 10–25 years of professional experience in public health within East Africa.
  • Be a national of an East African country (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, or Ethiopia), living and working in the region.
  • Hold a role serving populations at a national or regional level.
  • Demonstrate strong English communication skills (spoken and written).
  • Commit to participating in at least 75% of programme activities while residing in the East Africa Time (EAT) or Central Africa Time (CAT) zone.

  • No cost to participate – all programme expenses, including travel and accommodation for in-person events, are fully covered.
