The CJID AI in Journalism Incubator 2.0 is now accepting applications for its second cohort. This initiative, launched by the Nigeria AI Collective in collaboration with the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), seeks to unite technologists and media professionals to co-create AI-powered tools addressing critical challenges in journalism and media accountability across West Africa.

Program Highlights

The CJID AI in Journalism Incubator 2.0 provides participants with extensive support to ensure the successful development and scaling of innovative AI tools. Key highlights include:

  • Team Composition:
    Each team will consist of 3–4 members, including a majority of technologists (AI/ML developers, software engineers, data scientists, UX/UI designers, and product developers) and one journalist, researcher, or media professional serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Support Provided:
    Participants can expect:
    • A dedicated mentor for each team
    • Technical infrastructure and resources for product development
    • Product development support throughout the program
    • Seed grants to scale products after the incubator
    • Opportunities to showcase solutions at the Media and Development Conference 2025 in Abuja

Eligibility Criteria

The incubator is open to participants who can contribute technical or journalistic expertise:

  • Technologists: AI/ML developers, software engineers, data scientists, UX/UI designers, and product developers
  • Journalists/Researchers/Media Professionals: Fact-checkers, investigative journalists, and media researchers who can serve as SMEs within teams

Commitment Required

Selected participants must be available to fully engage in the incubator from September to November 2025. This includes weekly mentor check-ins and participating in the final showcase in Abuja.
