About the Legal Empowerment Fund Grants 2025

The Legal Empowerment Fund (LEF), hosted by the Fund for Global Human Rights, is committed to supporting grassroots movements that empower communities to know, use, and shape the law.

In 2025, the LEF has taken significant steps to expand its impact by:

  • Renewing approximately 50 grants worldwide.
  • Introducing pilot Communications Grants of $10,000 each to strengthen visibility and storytelling for 10 existing grantee partners.
  • Launching new funding opportunities specifically in the Caribbean region, focusing on land and environmental justice initiatives.

The Legal Empowerment Fund Grants 2025 is part of this expanded initiative, dedicated to uplifting communities that have long been excluded from legal and environmental justice processes.


Who Can Apply?

This funding opportunity is tailored for:

  • Grassroots organisations in the Caribbean region.
  • Groups with annual organisational budgets below USD 200,000.
  • Organisations that centre historically excluded populations, including Afro-descendant, Indigenous, rural, or LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Initiatives using legal empowerment strategies to achieve land justice and environmental justice.

Grant Details

  • Funding Amount: Between USD 10,000 and USD 30,000.
  • Eligible Regions: Caribbean countries, including Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago.
  • Application Deadline: 29 September 2025.
