    AERC–World Bank Visiting Scholars Programme 2026

    The prestigious AERC–World Bank Visiting Scholars Programme 2026 is now accepting applications from talented researchers across Sub‑Saharan Africa. This collaborative initiative between the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and the World Bank Africa Region Chief Economist’s Office (AFRCE) aims to elevate African-led research and policy engagement on pressing development issues.

    Each year, up to three AERC‑affiliated scholars are selected to spend four to six months at the World Bank, gaining access to world-class research facilities, mentorship, and collaboration opportunities. If you are an African researcher with an active project aligned with Africa’s development priorities, this opportunity is for you.


    About the AERC–World Bank Visiting Scholars Programme 2026

    The AERC–World Bank Visiting Scholars Programme 2026 is designed to enhance the capacity of African researchers and strengthen links between local scholars and international development networks. Hosted within the Office of the Chief Economist for Africa (AFRCE) at the World Bank, the programme supports the development, refinement, and global dissemination of policy-relevant research.


    What Visiting Scholars Will Do

    Selected participants will:

    • Join the AFRCE research team and contribute to ongoing World Bank analytical projects and flagship reports.
    • Present their research in at least one seminar during their stay.
    • Receive feedback and mentorship from World Bank researchers.
    • Revise and prepare their research for publication in the World Bank Working Paper Series or a reputable peer-reviewed journal.
    • Participate in internal events and create a repository of research interests to enable future collaboration with World Bank staff.

    Who Is Eligible?

    Applicants must:

    • Be AERC network researchers, including those in the AERC Collaborative PhD Programme.
    • Have an active research project at the interim, post‑fieldwork, or final paper stage.
    • Ensure that their research aligns with the development agenda of the World Bank Africa Region.

    Required Application Materials

    Interested applicants must prepare and submit the following documents:

    1. A two‑page statement of interest outlining goals and research relevance.
    2. A draft research paper relevant to Africa’s development priorities.
    3. Supporting curriculum or course materials (if involved in teaching).
    4. An updated curriculum vitae (CV).
