This prestigious 12-month programme offers journalists, content creators, and media practitioners across Africa the opportunity to amplify stories aligned with the AU Agenda 2063 while gaining international exposure, funding, and training.


    About the African Union Media Fellowship 2025

    The African Union Media Fellowship 2025 is designed to support innovative and impactful African media professionals through training, mentorship, and grants. Now in its third cohort, the fellowship aims to foster compelling storytelling that drives policy understanding, public engagement, and continental development through Agenda 2063.

    Who Can Apply?

    To be eligible for the African Union Media Fellowship 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Must be a citizen of any African Union member state
    • Minimum age of 25
    • Have at least six years of professional experience in journalism or media-related fields (excluding internships and academic work)
    • Be an active journalist, blogger, podcaster, vlogger, or digital content creator
    • Possess newsroom or editorial experience with a portfolio that shows evidence of innovation and impact
    • Fluent in one of the African Union’s official languages, with working proficiency in English (the primary language of the fellowship)

    Thematic Areas of Focus

    Applicants must propose stories or content ideas aligned with at least one of the following six thematic tracks derived from Agenda 2063:

    1. Economic development and regional integration
    2. Emerging economic sectors (sports and creative industries)
    3. Agricultural development and environmental management
    4. Promotion of good governance
    5. Strengthening Africa’s public health systems
    6. Infrastructure, technology, and digital innovation

    Fellowship Benefits

    Selected fellows will gain access to:

    • Certified training programmes, webinars, and masterclasses from global media partners (Deutsche Welle, BBC Media Action, GIZ, etc.)
    • In-person and virtual study tours across Africa and Europe
    • Mentorship and networking with African Union policymakers and development experts
    • Project funding and grants to support impactful content production
    • Close engagement with Agenda 2063, empowering fellows to communicate development efforts effectively

    What You’ll Need to Apply

    Applicants are expected to submit the following:

    • A professional CV (avoid including personal sensitive data)
    • A one-page cover letter outlining motivation and expected impact
    • A detailed project proposal including:
      • Story ideas (~200 words each)
      • List of potential interviewees
      • Planned publication platform(s) and language(s)
      • Strategy for social media and audience engagement
    • Two work samples that reflect your experience and storytelling approach
