The Karibu New Realities Grant (Africa Grant) 2025 is now open for applications! This is a unique opportunity for African-led groups, movements, and collectives working to challenge systemic injustices using creative, non-violent approaches. Applications close on 6 August 2025 at 23:59 CAT — don’t miss out!

What Is the Karibu New Realities Grant (Africa Grant)?

The Karibu New Realities Grant (Africa Grant) is a bold initiative from the Karibu Foundation, designed to support African-led change-makers who are creating new, justice-centred realities across the continent. Following a successful three-year pilot, the programme was formally launched in 2025 to empower grassroots collectives, cooperatives, movements, and associations that are reimagining the future through transformative, systemic, and non-violent actions.

This grant is especially tailored to support underrepresented, community-rooted actors engaged in what Karibu calls “constructive troublemaking” — addressing structural injustice with creativity and resilience.

    Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Karibu New Realities Grant (Africa Grant), your group must:

    • Be African-led and based on the African continent
    • Operate as a social movement, network, collective, association, or other non-profit change-oriented group
    • Work to tackle the root causes of systemic injustice (economic, political, cultural, ecological, etc.)
    • Use non-violent, creative strategies
    • Submit either a written concept note (maximum 6 pages) or a video application (maximum 10 minutes)
    • Include a simple budget draft outlining how funds will be used
    • Be open to informal organisational models — unregistered groups can apply with a fiscal sponsor or alternative structure

    What Will Not Be Funded?

The grant does not cover the following:

    • For-profit or income-generating initiatives
    • Individual scholarships or bursaries
    • Infrastructure projects (e.g. buildings, homes)
    • Capital investments (e.g. vehicles, farm equipment)
    • Humanitarian or emergency aid
    • Government-affiliated programmes

    Application Timeline

    • Applications Opened: 2 June 2025
