About the ACEP Ethanol Stove Innovation Hackathon 2025

The ACEP Ethanol Stove Innovation Hackathon 2025 invites Ghanaians aged 35 and below to take on the challenge of designing and fabricating ethanol-based cookstoves that are:

  • Environmentally sustainable
  • Fuel-efficient
  • Affordable
  • Safe to use
  • Adapted to local cooking needs

This two-phase hackathon aims to promote energy innovation while addressing pressing public health and environmental issues caused by traditional cooking fuels.


Why You Should Apply

Selected participants stand a chance to win up to $15,000 USD in support, covering:

  • Fabrication and material costs
  • Design testing and iteration
  • Development of a product guide/manual

Beyond the financial benefits, participants will also gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and visibility in the energy innovation space.


Who Can Apply?

This competition is open to individuals and teams of up to five members. Each participant must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a Ghanaian citizen
  • Be 35 years of age or younger at the time of application
  • Fall into one of the following categories:
    • Student at a university, technical university, or TVET institution
    • Young professional in fields such as energy, mechanical/product/industrial design
    • Entrepreneur with experience in the clean energy or energy access sectors
