    The prestigious GEMS Education Global Teacher Prize 2026 is now open for applications and nominations. With a grand prize of US $1 million, the award recognises an exceptional educator who has made a significant impact in the profession and their community. Organised by the Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO, and sponsored by GEMS Education, this global prize continues to celebrate outstanding teaching worldwide.

    About the GEMS Education Global Teacher Prize 2026

    The GEMS Education Global Teacher Prize 2026 marks the tenth edition of the world’s most renowned teaching award. Launched on 1 July 2025, the prize honours one exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession, showing innovation, leadership, and community impact.

    The winner will be announced at the World Governments Summit in Dubai in February 2026.

    This prize not only celebrates teachers as change-makers but also amplifies their work globally.


    Who Can Apply?

    Eligible applicants must:

    • Be currently working as a classroom teacher instructing children aged 5 to 18, or teaching children aged 4+ in a recognised Early Years curriculum.
    • Teach at least 10 hours per week in a face-to-face setting (part-time teachers are welcome).
    • Plan to remain in the profession for the next five years.
    • Online course instructors are eligible if they meet the face-to-face requirement.

    • Deadline: 30 September 2025 at 09:00 GMT
    • Top 50 Announced: November 2025

    Meet the 2025 Winner

    The 2025 edition was awarded to Mansour bin Abdullah Al Mansour from Saudi Arabia. His innovative work in integrating AI and virtual reality in education, coupled with his advocacy for inclusive education (including work with orphans, prisoners, and rural students), set a new standard for excellence in teaching.
