About the IPI Local News Accelerator 2025
The IPI Local News Accelerator 2025 is a unique opportunity curated by the International Press Institute (IPI) to empower local media outlets. Through hands-on training and strategic coaching, participants will be guided to develop audience-focused, financially viable business models that enhance their impact.
Programme Duration and Format
Over a four-month period, the programme will provide:
- One month of in-depth needs assessment tailored to each participating newsroom.
- Focused training on:
- Audience research and segmentation,
- Digital content formats (video, audio, newsletters),
- Business and revenue models for local journalism.
- Ongoing one-on-one coaching with international media experts who bring deep industry experience.
Who Should Apply?
This accelerator is open to legally registered media organisations worldwide that meet the following criteria:
- Actively serve local audiences through original, ethical journalism.
- Operate with at least two dedicated team members, both of whom can commit ~4 hours weekly to the programme.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of their current and target audiences.
- Possess a viable idea or plan to enhance their operations or solve an identified newsroom challenge.
- Show readiness to innovate and adopt new strategies or tools.
- Uphold journalistic ethics, press freedom, and public service values.
