The Africa Institute Senior & Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 programme is now accepting applications from qualified scholars across the globe. Based at the Africa Institute in Sharjah, UAE, this prestigious opportunity is designed for both emerging and established researchers working in the humanities and social sciences with a specific focus on Africa and its diaspora.

With generous funding, research support, and a stimulating intellectual environment, the Africa Institute Senior & Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 offer fellows the chance to immerse themselves in high-level scholarship and interdisciplinary exchange.


Fellowship Categories

The programme comprises four distinct fellowships, each targeting a different career stage:

Senior Fellowships (1-Year Residency)

  1. Toni Morrison Senior Fellowship
  2. Ali A. Mazrui Senior Fellowship

Eligibility: For established scholars holding the rank of Associate Professor, Full Professor, or the equivalent in research institutions or cultural organisations.

Postdoctoral Fellowships (2-Year Residency)

  1. Okwui Enwezor Postdoctoral Fellowship
  2. Fatema Mernissi Postdoctoral Fellowship

Eligibility: For early-career scholars who have earned their PhD within the last five years.
