About the ICLD Women’s Political Leadership Programme 2025

Organised by the International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) in collaboration with the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), this 12-month hybrid programme focuses on capacity building, strategic planning, and implementing locally driven change projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ICLD Women’s Political Leadership Programme 2025 provides women in leadership positions with the skills, mentorship, and peer support needed to influence democratic development in their communities.

What the Programme Covers

This is a fully funded opportunity. The following costs are covered:

  • International travel to Sweden
  • Accommodation and meals
  • Training sessions and materials
  • Group insurance for programme activities

Note: Participants are responsible for personal expenses and visa fees.

Graduates will receive an official certificate of completion and gain access to the ICLD alumni network.


Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the programme, applicants must:

  • Identify as a woman and currently hold an elected or appointed role in local or regional government (e.g., mayor, deputy mayor, councilor, governor)
  • Be from an OECD-DAC ODA-eligible country
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English (oral and written)
  • Be in good health and able to travel internationally
  • Be nominated by their organisation and submit only one application

Prior ICLD-funded participants are not eligible to reapply.
