Our Story: Born from a Nigerian Reality
Grants Database was founded in Lagos, Nigeria, not in a boardroom, but from direct experience with the challenges our local NGOs face. Our founder, Oluwole Omojofodun, spent over 4years working within the Nigerian development sector. Day after day, the story was the same: brilliant, passionate people doing life-changing work were being held back. They were spending countless hours sifting through irrelevant global grant portals, struggling to decipher complex funder requirements, and often missing out on opportunities right in their own backyard.
The frustration was real. Vital community projects stalled, not for a lack of passion, but for a lack of access. It became clear that a new approach was needed—one that was built for West Africa, by people who understood its unique landscape.
On June 12, 2025, we launched grantsdatabase.org with a simple, powerful idea: to create a centralized, intelligent, and supportive hub that puts the needs of Nigerian and West African NGOs first. We started by meticulously researching and curating local funders—from corporate foundations in Lagos to community trusts in rural Ghana—that were often overlooked. We then built tools and resources that spoke to the real-world operational needs of organizations in our region.
Today, we are a growing team of development professionals, grant writers, and technologists united by this founding vision. We are based in Nigeria, and our focus remains steadfastly on the continent we call home. NGO support organization in Nigeria.
