About the Japan Program Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026-2027
The fellowship is designed to support research and writing on contemporary Japan. Fellows will be based at Stanford University and actively participate in the Japan Program’s activities, present their research in seminars, and contribute to APARC’s publication programme.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the fellowship, applicants must:
- Hold a PhD degree that was conferred within the last three years when the fellowship begins.
- Have their dissertation submitted and approved by June 30, 2026 (for those completing their doctorate that year).
- Provide certification of degree completion and conferral no later than August 31, 2026.
- Be conducting research in relevant fields such as political science, economics, sociology, law, policy studies, or international relations.
Fellowship Benefits
Successful fellows will receive:
- A salary of up to US$80,000 (prorated for the 10-month appointment).
