    About the Fellowship

    The Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University invites applications for 1–2 postdoctoral positions in the project Political Violence in Democracies. The positions are fully funded for a period of two years, starting on 1 December 2025 (or as agreed).

    Successful candidates will collaborate with the principal investigator and team members to explore the dynamics of political violence in democratic settings, applying advanced quantitative methods and publishing in leading journals.

    Responsibilities

    Fellows will:

    • Conduct innovative research within the theme Political Violence in Democracies.
    • Lead in designing and coordinating quantitative data collection and analysis.
    • Publish in high-impact journals.
    • Potentially undertake limited teaching responsibilities within the department.

    Additional funding is available for research-related costs.


    Eligibility Criteria

    Ideal candidates should have:

    • A PhD (or equivalent) in peace and conflict research, political science, or related field.
    • Documented scholarly experience, preferably with peer-reviewed publications relevant to the project theme.
    • Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
      • Political behaviour and democratic values.
      • Advanced quantitative research methods (e.g. surveys, field experiments).
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

    Evaluation Criteria

    Applications will be assessed based on:

    • Demonstrated research skills, with emphasis on theory-driven empirical research and strong methodological skills.
    • Potential to make meaningful contributions to the project.
    • Publication record in relevant areas.
