    Google Software Engineering PhD Internship 2026

This paid internship offers PhD students the chance to work on projects that directly impact Google’s infrastructure and products while being mentored by world-class engineers.


    About the Internship

    The Google Software Engineering PhD Internship 2026 is designed to give PhD students an opportunity to engage in impactful research and practical software engineering. Interns will work alongside Google engineers on complex problems that require creativity, innovation, and deep technical expertise.

    This is a paid internship lasting 12–14 weeks, taking place in Summer 2026, and is structured to fit outside of academic term time.


    Internship Benefits

    • Competitive salary with an annualised equivalent base range of $113,000 – $150,000, depending on location, education, and experience.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must:

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Research experience in one or more areas such as Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Distributed Systems, Databases, or Networking.
    • A solid foundation in computer science, including algorithms, data structures, and software design.
    • Ability to work full-time for 12 consecutive weeks during Summer 2026.

    Internship Responsibilities

    Selected interns will:

    • Develop scalable and distributed software systems.
    • Contribute to projects that are central to Google’s infrastructure and product needs.
    • Collaborate with engineers in automating tasks, analysing data, and evaluating new approaches.
    • Gain valuable experience in balancing academic research insights with practical industry application.
