The Gates Foundation AI Fellows Program 2025 is now open for applications. This prestigious 12-month fellowship is designed to accelerate responsible and impactful use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in solving pressing challenges in global health, development, gender equality, education, and economic opportunity.
This programme offers Fellows the opportunity to work directly with divisions of the Gates Foundation such as Global Health, Global Development, Gender Equality, and Global Growth & Opportunity, applying cutting-edge AI solutions to high-priority projects that have real-world impact.
About the Gates Foundation AI Fellows Program 2025
The AI Fellows Program 2025 provides an immersive experience where participants will contribute to innovative initiatives at the intersection of AI and global problem-solving. Fellows will be embedded in projects that explore how AI can transform systems, improve decision-making, and create sustainable solutions for communities worldwide.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Gates Foundation AI Fellows Program 2025, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or another relevant field.
- Possess strong technical expertise in:
- Machine Learning and AI modelling
- Software engineering
- Model evaluation
- Large Language Model (LLM) deployment
- Data wrangling and management
- Demonstrated interest in applying AI to domains such as health systems, agriculture, diagnostics, and education. (Note: prior direct research experience is not mandatory.)
- Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in building prototypes with LLMs (open-source or API-based), along with a willingness to share learnings and outcomes.
Fellowship Benefits and Compensation
The fellowship offers a competitive compensation package:
- Starting salary in the range of USD $148,920 – $162,350 depending on location.
- All Fellows are compensated equally within this salary structure.
Duration and Commitment
- Fellowship duration: 12 months
- Fellows will be fully engaged with projects and teams within the Gates Foundation for the entire period.
