    The TMU CERC Migration and Bridging Divides Journalism Fellowship 2026 is now open for applications. Hosted by Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), this unique fellowship is designed to strengthen collaboration between journalists and migration researchers, while supporting evidence-based reporting on migration, integration, and global issues.

    This prestigious programme offers journalists the opportunity to spend time in residence at TMU, engaging with leading academics, accessing vital resources, and participating in knowledge-sharing initiatives that inform high-quality reporting.


    Fellowship Objectives

    The TMU CERC Migration and Bridging Divides Journalism Fellowship 2026 seeks to:

    • Promote stronger collaboration between journalists and migration researchers.
    • Equip journalists with evidence-based insights for reporting on migration and integration.
    • Build a bridge between academic research and public communication.
    • Provide space for reflection, networking, and professional growth.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must:

    • Be staff or freelance journalists.
    • Have at least 5 years of professional media experience.
    • Demonstrate a strong background in covering international/global affairs, politics, economy, or migration.

    Fellowship Residency Details

    • Location: Toronto, Canada
    • Duration: 20 to 35 consecutive days
    • Timeline: Between March 1 and November 30, 2026 (excluding July and August)

    Fellowship Benefits

    Selected fellows will receive:

    • A $5,000 CAD stipend (inclusive of travel allowance).
    • Access to TMU office space and research resources.
    • An academic host from TMU’s research teams.
    • Participation in academic events, research exchanges, and networking opportunities.

    Application Requirements

    Applicants must submit:

    1. Condensed CV (maximum 4 pages).
    2. Cover Letter (maximum 2 pages) including:
      • Motivation for applying.
      • Alignment with CERC Migration or Bridging Divides research themes.
      • Proposed activities during the residency.
      • Preferred academic hosts (first and second choice; note: Anna Triandafyllidou is not eligible).
      • Proposed residency dates.
    3. 2–3 Work Samples (submitted as PDFs or links).
    4. Optional: Recommendation letter from supervisor or editor.
