    What is the Princeton University Hodder Fellowship?

    The Princeton University Hodder Fellowship 2026–2027 is designed to support composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, writers, translators, and other artists and humanists who demonstrate outstanding potential. Unlike many other fellowships, this programme focuses on future promise rather than past accomplishments, giving innovative creatives the freedom to explore their ideas.

    • Stipend: $93,000 for a 10-month fellowship at Princeton University.
    • Duration: Academic year 2026–2027.
    • Location: Princeton University, New Jersey, USA.

    Who Can Apply?

    The fellowship welcomes applicants from across the globe:

    • Open to:
      • Composers
      • Choreographers
      • Performance Artists
      • Visual Artists
      • Writers
      • Translators
      • Other creative humanists
    • Citizenship: Open to international applicants (U.S. citizenship not required).
    • Exclusions: Previous recipients of the Princeton Arts Fellowship are not eligible to apply.

    Application Requirements

    Applicants must prepare the following materials for submission:

    1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

    A detailed CV highlighting your creative and professional achievements.

    2. Project Proposal (500 words)

    A clear and concise proposal outlining the project you intend to pursue during the fellowship.

    3. Work Samples & Statement (150 words)

    Submit samples of your work accompanied by a short statement explaining how these works relate to your proposed project. Guidelines vary by discipline:

    • Creative Writing:
      • Prose: Maximum 3,000 words.
      • Poetry: Maximum 20 pages.
      • Mixed submissions allowed (up to 2,000 words prose + 10 pages poetry).
    • Dance (Choreography):
      • 1–3 video links (minimum 15 minutes total), with cue points included.
    • Music:
      • 1–2 scores and/or 1–2 links to recorded performances (minimum 10 minutes; video optional).
    • Theatre:
      • Up to 15 pages of writing samples and/or 10 images of design work.
      • Video/audio reel (with cue points) accepted.
    • Visual Arts:
      • Up to 20 still images OR 10 minutes of video OR a combination of up to 10 images and 5 minutes of video. Cue points required for longer works.
