Are you a research institution in a developing country seeking to enhance your scientific capacity? The TWAS Visiting Expert Programme 2025/2026 provides a unique opportunity to host internationally recognised scientists who can support research, training, and long-term collaboration.

This programme aims to strengthen scientific expertise in developing countries by connecting institutions with world-class researchers.

About the TWAS Visiting Expert Programme 2025/2026

The TWAS Visiting Expert Programme 2025/2026 is designed to facilitate visits by highly accomplished scientists (excluding mathematics and physics) to institutions in developing countries. The goal is to build institutional research capacity, inspire students, and foster sustainable academic partnerships.

The visiting expert is expected to:

    • Deliver lectures and seminars.
    • Supervise students and provide mentorship.
    • Conduct collaborative research with the host institution.
    • Explore future joint projects to enhance scientific development.

    Funding and Support

    • Travel Costs: TWAS covers the cost of the visiting expert’s most direct economy-class round-trip travel.
    • Local Expenses: The host institution is responsible for covering local accommodation, meals, and other on-ground expenses.

This co-funding arrangement ensures that institutions and experts share responsibility for meaningful and sustainable collaboration.

    • Must be located in a developing country, particularly in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) or regions with limited scientific infrastructure.
    • Should demonstrate capacity to benefit from the visit through research collaboration, student engagement, and long-term institutional development.

Interested host institutions must submit an online application with the following documents:

    1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the nominated Visiting Expert (maximum 10 pages, including a publication list).
    2. Letter from the Visiting Expert outlining the proposed teaching and research activities (template provided by TWAS).
    3. Supporting statement from the head of the host institution, confirming institutional support (template provided by TWAS).
