    IGH-BCCWH Seed Grant Competition 2025–2026

    Deadline: August 19, 2025

The IGH-BCCWH Seed Grant Competition 2025–2026 is now open for applications. This competitive funding opportunity is designed to support innovative global child health initiatives, ranging from research and education to capacity-building projects. With funding of up to USD 40,000 over two years, the competition aims to catalyse transformative work in global child and maternal health that aligns with BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital’s strategic priorities.

About the IGH-BCCWH Seed Grant Competition 2025–2026

Organised by the Institute for Global Health (IGH) at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, and supported by the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, this competition seeks to foster partnerships between researchers and practitioners in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and experts at BC Children’s/Women’s institutions.

The goal is to enable the development of high-quality, catalytic initiatives that can grow into long-term, sustainable programmes with measurable impact on child and maternal health. Both research and non-research projects are eligible, provided they include a strong evaluation component.

    Funding Available

    • Amount: Up to USD 40,000
    • Duration: Two years
    • Eligible Projects: New initiatives in global child health—research, education, or capacity building (must not subsidise already-funded projects).

    Timeline and Key Deadlines

Applicants must carefully note the following:

    • Letter of Intent (LOI) Deadline: August 19, 2025
    • Co-PA Support Deadline: Applicants who need help identifying a co-Principal Applicant (co-PA) at BC Children’s/Women’s must email Stefanie Novakowski at stefanie.novakowski@bcchr.ca by August 19, 2025, including a short description of the proposed project.
    • Full Application Submission: Invited applicants will submit their full proposal by January 15, 2026.
    • Project Start Date: April 1, 2026

    Eligibility Criteria

To ensure a strong collaborative structure, the grant requires:

    • Principal Applicant (PA):
      • Must hold a full-time position at a recognised institution in an LMIC (such as a university, health centre, NGO, or research institute).
    • Co-Principal Applicant (co-PA):
      • Must be based at BC Children’s Hospital or BC Women’s Hospital (or their affiliated research institutes).
      • Must hold a position that enables them to manage research funds.
    • Additional Notes:
      • Postdoctoral fellows, residents, research associates, and healthcare professionals are eligible as PA or co-PA.
      • However, teams must include a co-PA with the capacity to hold funds within the BC Children’s/Women’s institution.

    Strategic Alignment

Successful proposals should align with the following:

    1. BC Children’s strategic priorities – advancing global partnerships, health education, and research.
    2. BC Children’s Hospital Foundation mission – transforming health for children and youth, from infancy through adolescence, with integrated approaches to maternal and child health.
    3. Catalytic impact – initiating projects with potential for growth into long-term, impactful programmes.

    Next Steps for Applicants

    1. Draft and submit your LOI by August 19, 2025.
    2. Secure your co-PA. If you need assistance, email stefanie.novakowski@bcchr.ca with a brief description of your project.
    3. Prepare your full proposal. If your LOI is successful, you will be invited to submit a comprehensive application by January 15, 2026.
