    Deadline: Friday, 18 July 2025

The UNIDIR Outer Space Security Conference Youth Video Competition 2025 is now open for applications, offering young visionaries aged 18–25 from around the world the chance to contribute to global discussions on space security. This exciting initiative is a gateway to influence international policy conversations and even win a fully funded trip to Geneva, Switzerland.

Hosted by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) in collaboration with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), the competition will culminate in the prestigious Outer Space Security Conference (OS25), set to take place from 9–10 September 2025.

What is the UNIDIR Outer Space Security Conference Youth Video Competition 2025?

The UNIDIR Outer Space Security Conference Youth Video Competition 2025 is a platform for young people to imagine themselves in the year 2050 and reflect on the future of outer space governance. Participants must submit a 1–3 minute original video answering the prompt:

“It’s the year 2050. You work on outer space security—as a treaty negotiator, orbital traffic controller, policy advisor, or in another role. What challenge do you face and how are you responding?”

The competition seeks forward-thinking ideas that creatively address space security and sustainability challenges, blending imagination with policy awareness.

    Why You Should Participate

    Winners of the competition will:

    • Receive a fully funded trip to Geneva, Switzerland (including airfare, accommodation, and per diem)
    • Present their video during lightning talk sessions at OS25
    • Have their video showcased on the UNIDIR website
    • Be invited to expand their idea into a written commentary published by UNIDIR

This is more than a contest — it’s an opportunity to bring youth perspectives into global space governance conversations and elevate your voice to a UN-level platform.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Be between 18 and 25 years old at the time of submission
    • Submit only one entry in .mp4 format (1–3 minutes)
    • Ensure their video is original and not AI-generated
    • Include audio and subtitles (English captions required if the video is not in English)

Videos will be evaluated based on originality, creativity, thematic relevance, clarity, technical quality, and the participant’s understanding of space security.
