    Are you passionate about improving climate resilience in Africa? The WISER Africa Co‑Production Fellowship 2025 offers early-career researchers and professionals a unique opportunity to engage with regional climate institutions, contribute to co-produced weather and climate services, and build technical and stakeholder collaboration skills across Africa. This fully funded fellowship is supported by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the ARCAN initiative.

    About the WISER Africa Co‑Production Fellowship 2025

    The WISER Africa Co‑Production Fellowship 2025 is part of the UK Met Office’s WISER (Weather and Climate Information Services for Africa) programme. It seeks to enhance climate services through a participatory approach involving local communities and institutions.

    Fellows will be embedded within regional African climate organizations to help co-design services that meet real-world needs and promote climate adaptation strategies through research and knowledge exchange.


    Fellowship Regions and Host Institutions

    Three fellowships will be awarded, one per African sub-region:

    • East Africa – Hosted in eligible East African countries.
    • Southern Africa – Hosted in eligible Southern African countries.
    • West Africa – Hosted at AGRHYMET Regional Center, Niamey, Niger.

    Who Can Apply?

    This opportunity is open to early-career researchers or professionals who meet the following nationality criteria:

    East Africa

    Applicants must be nationals of one of the following:
    Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda

    Southern Africa

    Applicants must be nationals of:
    Angola, Botswana, Comoros, DRC, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe

    West Africa

    Applicants must be nationals of:
    Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must be hosted by a relevant academic or research institution (East & Southern Africa).
    • For West Africa, must be eligible to be hosted by AGRHYMET.
    • Strong interest or experience in co-production, stakeholder engagement, or indigenous knowledge systems is an asset.

    Fellowship Objectives

    The fellowship is designed to:

    • Strengthen co-production capacity within regional meteorological and climate service centers.
    • Facilitate stakeholder engagement to co-design climate service priorities.
    • Conduct applied research on co-production methods, communication approaches, and local knowledge systems.
    • Promote learning exchanges and collaboration across the WISER programme.

    Fellowship Benefits

    • Full funding to support their engagement.
    • Mentorship and technical guidance from regional and international experts.
