    The Black Atlantic Editorial Fellowship 2025 is now open for applications, offering five emerging editors and writers across Africa a unique platform to shape compelling stories rooted in Blackness and the African experience. With remote editorial mentorship, a $500 monthly stipend, and support to curate local conversations, this six‑month programme is a game‑changer for storytelling leaders.


    What is the Black Atlantic Editorial Fellowship 2025?

    Hosted by The Republic, this fellowship empowers early- to mid-career editors, journalists, researchers, and curators from West, East, Southern, North, and Central Africa. Over a six-month period, fellows will commission stories, write original content, and curate local events that highlight critical themes shaping Africa.


    Benefits of the Fellowship

    Each selected fellow will receive:

    • $500 monthly stipend to support project work
    • Ongoing editorial mentorship and structured feedback
    • Access to workshops, skill-building sessions, and a final digital symposium

    Who Should Apply?

    Ideal candidates:

    • Are based in Africa, representing one of the five regions
    • Have at least 3 years of professional experience in editing, journalism, research, or related storytelling roles
    • Are passionate about Black identity and African narratives
    • Can commit to six months of work—with reliable internet access—for a fully remote experience

    Fellowship Responsibilities

    As a fellow, you will:

    1. Propose an editorial theme within one of The Republic’s eight focus areas (e.g., Art x Culture, Science x Technology, Politics x Security)
    2. Develop a distinct editorial identity for your regional division
    3. Commission two original essays per month
    4. Produce one original story monthly
    5. Host a public engagement event in your city at the end of the fellowship term

    Application Requirements & Deadline

    To apply, you must submit:

    • A 3-page editorial proposal outlining your theme and plan
    • A CV detailing your professional experience
    • A 500-word statement of interest
    • Two published writing samples
    • Contact information for two professional referees
