The IOM Short Film Contest on Combating Trafficking in Persons in Nigeria 2025 is now open for submissions! About the Contest
Now in its third year, the IOM Short Film Contest on Combating Trafficking in Persons in Nigeria 2025 aims to mobilize Nigerian youth in the fight against human trafficking. Themed “Human trafficking is Organized Crime – End the Exploitation”, this contest coincides with the World Day against Trafficking in Persons (July 30) and offers a platform for meaningful storytelling, awareness, and advocacy.
The contest calls on young creatives to submit powerful, reflective films that educate, engage, and provoke change in society’s understanding of trafficking and exploitation.
Eligibility Criteria
The contest is open to:
- Nigerian youth under the age of 35
- Individuals or groups actively involved in the film creation process (director, scriptwriter, producer, actor, editor, etc.)
- Group entries are accepted as long as the roles are clearly defined
Film Requirements
All film submissions must meet the following specifications:
- Maximum length: 26 minutes, including credits
- Language: Any, but must include English subtitles
- Format: MOV or MP4 (HD quality recommended)
- Production date: Only films produced on or after January 1, 2023 are eligible
- Genres: Open to all—documentaries, fiction, animation, drama, comedy, etc.—as long as the central theme aligns with counter-trafficking efforts
Awards and Recognition
A total of $5,000 in prize money will be awarded:
- 🥇 First Prize: $2,500
- 🥈 Second Prize: $1,500
- 🥉 Third Prize: $1,000
Winning entries will be widely promoted on local and international platforms. Additionally, winners may gain access to further training and development opportunities supported by IOM and its partners.
