    Solar Innovators Research Fellowship 2026

    The Solar Innovators Research Fellowship 2026 is a four-month applied research programme designed to strengthen Africa’s solar manufacturing ecosystem. The fellowship provides early-career engineers and researchers with the opportunity to work on real industry challenges in solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing while gaining mentorship, industry exposure, and collaborative research experience.

    The Solar Innovators Research Fellowship 2026 aims to bridge the gap between research and industry by enabling participants to develop practical solutions that can be adopted by solar manufacturers and technology partners across Africa.

    This fellowship focuses on equipping participants with the technical knowledge, collaborative networks, and industry exposure needed to advance solar innovation and manufacturing on the continent.


    About the Solar Innovators Research Fellowship 2026

    The Solar Innovators Research Fellowship 2026 is designed to support applied research in solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing by connecting promising African researchers with industry professionals, manufacturers, and testing partners.

    Participants will work on practical projects that address technical and operational challenges within the solar manufacturing value chain. The programme encourages innovative thinking, research collaboration, and solution-driven approaches aimed at improving solar production efficiency and strengthening Africa’s renewable energy sector.

    Throughout the fellowship, participants will engage in structured training sessions, collaborative cohort meetings, and mentorship activities that guide them in developing research solutions with real manufacturing applications.

    The programme is delivered virtually and brings together fellows from across Africa to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and contribute to advancing solar manufacturing capabilities on the continent.


    Programme Duration

    The fellowship runs for four months.

    • Programme Format: Virtual programme connecting fellows across Africa

    During the programme, fellows will participate in weekly sessions, research development activities, and mentorship engagements designed to support their research progress.


    Areas of Research Focus

    Participants will work on research projects that address challenges across different areas of solar photovoltaic manufacturing. These areas may include:

    • Solar photovoltaic materials science
    • Solar device design and physics
    • Manufacturing systems and processes

    • Have a Master’s degree (preferred) or equivalent experience in a related field
    • Be based in Africa or actively working on solar manufacturing challenges related to Africa
    • Demonstrate the ability to commit to the full four-month fellowship programme
    • Be proficient in English

    Relevant academic and professional backgrounds may include:

    • Physics
    • Materials science
    • Electrical engineering
    • Electronics engineering
    • Mechanical engineering
    • Manufacturing engineering
    • Data science or related technical disciplines

    Some programme guidelines also indicate that applicants may fall within the 21 to 35 years age range with a relevant science or engineering background.
