    The Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowships for Master, PhD, and Medical Students 2026 is now open for applications! This prestigious programme supports exceptional students in scientific fields who wish to gain international experience through research projects, academic placements, or internships abroad.


    About the Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowships 2026

    The Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowships 2026 aims to empower the next generation of scientists and innovators by providing financial support for international learning opportunities. The fellowship offers students from various disciplines the chance to expand their knowledge, collaborate across borders, and contribute to solving pressing global challenges.

    Each year, the programme awards fellowships of up to €10,000, enabling selected candidates to undertake international research experiences lasting up to six months.

    Students currently studying in Germany are expected to conduct their research in another country, while students from outside Germany are required to complete their placement in Germany.

    The application deadline is 15 April 2026.


    Eligibility Criteria

    The fellowships are open to Master’s, PhD, and medical students from universities worldwide who demonstrate academic excellence and a strong commitment to scientific advancement. Applicants must have a clearly defined research proposal that aligns with the thematic focus of one of the fellowship categories.


    Fellowship Categories

    1. Fellowship in Drug Discovery Sciences

    This category supports Master’s or PhD students from any scientific discipline—including pharmacy, chemistry, biology, data science, and related fields—whose research contributes to the pharmaceutical and consumer health sectors.

    2. Fellowship for Agricultural Science

    This fellowship is designed for students pursuing Master’s or PhD studies in fields related to crop science and agricultural research, aiming to foster innovation in sustainable food production and agricultural development.

    3. Fellowship for Medical Sciences

    This track is open to students in human or veterinary medicine, as well as Master’s and PhD candidates in medical engineering, applied medical sciences, public health, or data science in medicine. It supports research addressing current medical challenges and advancing healthcare technologies.

    4. Fellowship for Climate & Health (New in 2026)

    Introduced for 2026, this new fellowship focuses on the intersection between climate change and health. Applicants’ research should address one or more of the following priority areas:

    • Women’s and vulnerable populations’ health
    • Cardio-renal health
    • Neglected tropical diseases
    • Respiratory health

    Who Is Encouraged to Apply?

    The programme strongly encourages applications from underrepresented groups and individuals facing barriers to scientific mobility. This includes:

    • Women in science
    • Students from low- and middle-income countries
    • Parents with caregiving responsibilities
    • Researchers in Germany whose first language is not German

    This inclusivity-driven approach ensures that diverse perspectives contribute to global scientific progress.
