    About the African Union Internship Program 2026

    The African Union Internship Program 2026 aims to build a pool of talented young Africans from AU Member States, fostering their professional and leadership capabilities through direct involvement in the Union’s operations. Interns will work in different departments at the African Union Commission (AUC), supporting key programmes and activities that drive the AU’s strategic objectives.

    This internship programme provides an enabling environment for interns to learn from experienced professionals, understand continental governance systems, and contribute to achieving the AU’s vision of “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens.”


    Objectives of the Internship Programme

    The primary objectives of the internship programme are to:

    • Offer interns practical exposure to the workings of the African Union.
    • Provide opportunities for professional development and career guidance.
    • Promote the principles of Pan-Africanism and continental cooperation.
    • Support the development of future African leaders with an understanding of AU systems.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Must be a national of an African Union Member State.
    • Be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or possess a Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree in a relevant field.
    • Be not more than 32 years old at the time of selection.
    • Be proficient in at least one of the AU’s working languages (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
    • Exhibit a high level of integrity and good conduct.
    • Prior work experience is not required.

    Location

    Internships are primarily based at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with opportunities across various departments, offices, and directorates.


    Areas of Focus

    Interns will support programmes and administrative functions in several departments including:

    • Office of the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson
    • Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mining
    • Education, Science, Technology and Innovation
    • Political Affairs, Peace and Security
    • Humanitarian Affairs, Health and Social Development
    • Infrastructure and Energy
    • Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment
    • Information and Communication
    • Legal Counsel
    • Protocol Services
    • Women, Gender and Youth
    • Human Resources Management and Administration

    Application Requirements

    Interested candidates are required to submit the following documents:

    • A Motivation Letter outlining career goals and reasons for applying.
    • A copy of a valid passport or national identity card.
    • Certified academic certificates and transcripts.
    • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).
    • A Recommendation Letter from an educational institution.
