    The Young Nature Leaders Grant 2026, organized by Women for Nature and administered by Nature Canada, provides financial support of $1,000 CAD to help young people bring their conservation and environmental leadership ideas to life.

    The Young Nature Leaders Grant 2026 aims to empower young Canadians under the age of 30 who are leading initiatives that connect people with nature, promote sustainability, and inspire conservation. This grant supports innovative, youth-led projects that highlight the importance of nature and community engagement.

    Purpose of the Grant

    The purpose of the Young Nature Leaders Grant is to:

    • Encourage young leaders to take action for nature
    • Support creative and impactful environmental initiatives
    • Foster youth leadership and engagement in sustainability efforts
    • Promote community involvement and awareness of environmental issues

    Through this grant, Nature Canada and Women for Nature seek to inspire a new generation of leaders committed to protecting the natural world.


    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the Young Nature Leaders Grant 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Be under 30 years old
    • Propose a youth-led nature project taking place within Canada
    • Ensure the project complies with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) charity spending guidelines
    • Note: Nature Canada employees and their close relatives are not eligible to apply

    Priority Areas for Project Consideration

    While all eligible projects will be considered, special priority will be given to those that align with one or more of the following themes:

    • Oceans and marine conservation
    • Ecological restoration and habitat protection
    • Protected areas and wildlife stewardship
    • Indigenous-led conservation initiatives
    • Projects supported by Women for Nature members
    • Media-based projects (e.g., short films, photography, or social media campaigns showcasing conservation efforts)

    These focus areas reflect the commitment of Nature Canada and Women for Nature to addressing key environmental challenges and supporting diverse voices in conservation.


    Selection Criteria

    Applicants will be evaluated based on several important factors, including:

    • The potential impact and benefits of the proposed project
    • The level of public engagement and outreach
    • Creativity and originality of the idea
    • Clarity and effectiveness of the project proposal
    • Efficient use of funds and budget transparency
    • Inclusion and engagement of underrepresented communities
    • Opportunities for collaboration with Women for Nature members

    Application Process

    Applicants can submit their proposals in either English or French, and submissions can be made in one of the following formats:

    • A two-page written essay describing the proposed project, or
    • A short video proposal explaining the project goals, impact, and implementation plan

    All applications must be received by 5:00 PM Eastern Time on February 20, 2026. Successful applicants will be selected based on how well their project aligns with the objectives of the grant and demonstrates a strong commitment to nature leadership.
