    Overview of the Coding It Forward Summer Fellowship 2026

    The Coding It Forward Summer Fellowship 2026 is a 10-week paid fellowship where fellows work with local, state, or federal government offices across the United States. The program connects technologists with public sector projects that leverage technology for good, combining mentorship, learning, and hands-on professional experience.

    • Fellowship Duration: 10 weeks (June 8 – August 14, 2026)
    • Work Format: Remote (virtual participation), with some positions possibly requiring onsite collaboration depending on agency needs
    • Compensation: Competitive hourly pay between $20–$25 per hour

    This program empowers young professionals to apply their technical skills to public interest projects while building connections within the civic tech community.


    Eligibility Criteria

    To apply for the Coding It Forward Summer Fellowship 2026, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

    • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident
    • Be at least 18 years old by the start of the fellowship
    • Be based in the United States throughout the program duration
    • Be a current student or recent graduate of an accredited bachelor’s, master’s, professional, or doctoral program—or a recent graduate of a qualifying bootcamp or technical certificate program
    • Select one technical track during application:
      • Cybersecurity
      • Data
      • Design
      • Product Management
      • Software Engineering

    Note: International students are not eligible due to U.S. work authorization restrictions.


    What Fellows Will Do

    During the fellowship, participants will engage in impactful technology-driven projects supporting public agencies. Fellows may contribute to various digital initiatives, including:

    • Building digital tools and dashboards
    • Conducting data analysis and visualization
    • Designing user-focused products and interfaces
    • Developing secure software and systems
    • Creating cybersecurity solutions to strengthen government infrastructure

    Through this immersive experience, fellows gain exposure to civic technology, leadership development, and teamwork in a professional government setting.
