    About the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award

    The Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award was created by the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) to recognize photographers whose work captures humanity in times of crisis and change. The award celebrates professionals who go beyond boundaries, risk their safety, and inspire understanding through the lens of their cameras.

    It is not limited to conflict reporting; courage in photography can appear in many forms — from documenting social justice movements to telling powerful stories of resilience and hope.

    • Applicants can be freelance or affiliated with a recognized media organization.
    • Self-nominations are accepted, as well as nominations from peers, editors, or mentors.
