    Deadline: January 15, 2026

The Roman J. Witt Residency 2026–2027 invites applications from innovative artists and designers around the world. Hosted by the University of Michigan’s Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design, in partnership with the U-M Institute for the Humanities, this prestigious residency supports creative practitioners in developing new work while engaging meaningfully with the university community.

About the Roman J. Witt Residency 2026–2027

The Roman J. Witt Residency 2026–2027 is a unique opportunity designed to foster collaboration between artists, designers, students, and faculty. The program encourages experimentation, dialogue, and the cross-pollination of ideas that push creative boundaries.

The selected resident will spend up to twelve weeks in residence at the University of Michigan, where they will have access to top-tier facilities, an inspiring academic environment, and opportunities to engage with a wide network of creative thinkers.

    Objectives of the Residency

The primary goals of the Roman J. Witt Residency are to:

    • Support artistic production and the exploration of new creative directions.
    • Foster active engagement with students, faculty, and the local community.
    • Promote collaboration and dialogue across disciplines.
    • Provide the resident artist with an enriching environment to experiment, share knowledge, and expand their practice through teaching, critiques, workshops, and public lectures.

    Residency Benefits

The residency offers a comprehensive support package to ensure that artists can focus fully on their creative process and community engagement. Benefits include:

    • Honorarium: $20,000 for up to twelve weeks in residence.
    • Housing: Accommodation provided during the residency period.
    • Studio Space: Dedicated workspace for the duration of the program.
    • Production Support: Up to $10,000 to cover materials, research, and development costs.

If a team or collective is selected, the funds will be distributed among the members, as resources are finite.
