This fully funded scholarship, offered by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in partnership with Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) in China, aims to develop highly skilled professionals capable of driving sustainable development across the continent. Students from all African countries with interest or experience in fisheries and the blue economy are encouraged to apply.

    About the AfDB SHOU Scholarship Programme 2026

    The AfDB SHOU Scholarship Programme 2026 is focused on building expertise in Africa’s blue economy through high-quality education and training at Shanghai Ocean University. The programme targets motivated students who wish to contribute to sustainable development in marine science, aquaculture, and fisheries management.     Eligibility Criteria

    Master’s Applicants

    • Must be a national of an African Development Bank Regional Member Country (RMC).
    • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or any field with strong interest in fisheries and blue economy.
    • English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80.
    • Maximum age: 35 years at the time of application.
    • Strong academic record (GPA ≥ 3.0 or equivalent).

    PhD Applicants

    • Must be an AfDB RMC national with relevant background or experience in fisheries or blue economy.
    • Hold a Master’s degree in marine science, aquaculture, environmental policy, economics, development studies, or related fields.
    • English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80.
    • Demonstrated research experience, ideally with at least one published paper.
    • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in multicultural environments.
