    The Aga Khan Foundation Canada Teachers’ Leadership Institute (TLI) 2026 is a unique, fully funded professional development programme for educators across Canada. Designed to enhance teachers’ pedagogical skills and leadership capacity, this five‑day in‑person institute focuses on global citizenship, sustainability, and international development themes. The programme offers educators an exceptional opportunity to collaborate with peers, access specialised training, and integrate globally relevant content into classroom teaching.

    Educators who participate will leave with practical strategies to inspire their students, create meaningful lesson plans, and contribute actively to global education initiatives in their schools. This programme not only supports professional growth but also cultivates leadership and advocacy in Canadian classrooms.


    About the Aga Khan Foundation Canada Teachers’ Leadership Institute (TLI) 2026

    The TLI is a five-day in-person professional development experience for Canadian educators. It is hosted at York University, Toronto, and covers all costs, including travel, accommodation, and meals. The institute provides teachers with the tools and knowledge to incorporate sustainability, global citizenship, and international development topics into their classrooms. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, collaborative workshops, and networking opportunities with like-minded educators from across Canada.

    The institute emphasises practical application, encouraging teachers to trial new teaching approaches and share their learning experiences with colleagues. This initiative supports ongoing professional growth and strengthens educators’ capacity to address global challenges in the classroom.


    Eligibility Criteria

    To apply for the TLI 2026, candidates must meet the following requirements:

    • Certified educators currently teaching in Grades 6–12 across Canada.
    • Availability to attend the full programme from 26 July – 1 August 2026 in Toronto, Ontario.
    • Interest in integrating global citizenship, sustainability, and international development into teaching practice.
    • Willingness to assume a leadership role by sharing learnings with peers and supporting global education initiatives in their school or district.
    • Proficiency in English, as the programme is conducted primarily in English.
    • Commitment to ongoing engagement post-institute, including trialling co-created lesson plans and providing feedback during the 2026–2027 school year.
