    UNICEF Canada Youth Advocacy Program 2026

    The UNICEF Canada Youth Advocacy Program 2026 is now open for applications, offering a transformative platform for young people across Canada to develop strong advocacy skills and meaningful civic engagement tools. This 10-month virtual programme empowers participants to explore key societal issues, understand their rights, and learn how to influence decision-makers effectively. Designed with youth leadership at its core, the UNICEF Canada Youth Advocacy Program 2026 provides practical knowledge, real-world guidance, and a supportive network to help young advocates create lasting change in their communities.


    About the Opportunity

    This fully online initiative runs for 10 months from February to December, delivered primarily via Zoom. Participants engage in monthly sessions led by experienced advocates, policy experts, and youth leaders. The programme offers a flexible 2–5-hour monthly commitment, making it accessible for young people balancing school, work, or other responsibilities. It brings together a diverse group of youth from various backgrounds, fostering collaboration, shared learning, and inclusive dialogue.


    Eligibility

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Aged 13–24
    • Living in Canada
    • Demonstrated interest in advocacy, activism, government engagement, or social change
    • Willingness to participate actively in online sessions and group activities

    Curriculum Overview

    • Self-care for advocates
    • Advocacy 101: Key principles and strategies
    • Understanding rights, laws, and political structures
    • Identifying advocacy goals and designing an advocacy plan
    • Mapping influence and identifying key decision-makers
    • Understanding legislative processes such as the House of Commons and Senate
    • Engagement strategies for talking to government officials, raising awareness, and building public support
    • Additional participant-led topics based on interests and emerging priorities

    Time Commitment

    Participants should expect to commit approximately 2–5 hours monthly, which includes virtual sessions, group work, and personal advocacy project development.


    Application Requirements

    Applicants will complete an online application form outlining their interest in advocacy, motivation for joining, and ability to commit to the programme duration.
