About the International Affairs Fellowship in Japan 2026-2027
The International Affairs Fellowship in Japan 2026-2027, sponsored by Hitachi, Ltd., is designed to strengthen mutual understanding and collaboration between emerging leaders from the United States and Japan. Through immersive research and engagement, fellows explore core issues that define U.S.–Japan relations—ranging from defence and trade to critical minerals and export controls.

Fellowship Objectives
The fellowship’s main goal is to promote cross-cultural cooperation and advance dialogue on key topics in international relations. Fellows are expected to:

Fellowship Benefits

Please note: Fellows are considered independent contractors, not employees, meaning employment benefits such as health insurance are not provided. Additionally, no indirect costs may be deducted from the stipend or grant amount.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the International Affairs Fellowship in Japan 2026-2027, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a mid-career professional with a strong record of achievement.
- Hold at least a bachelor’s degree.
