About the DW Akademie Young Media Makers Fellowship Programme 2026

The DW Akademie Young Media Makers Fellowship Programme 2026 is a professional development initiative offering a two-year immersive learning experience. It focuses on strengthening media literacy, promoting press freedom, and supporting innovation in media content production throughout the Western Balkans region.

The fellowship provides a platform for participants to learn from global experts, engage in cross-border collaborations, and gain hands-on experience through a structured series of seminars, workshops, and study visits.


Eligible Countries

Applicants must be residents of one of the following Western Balkan countries:

  • Albania
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Kosovo
  • Montenegro
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia

Programme Duration and Structure

The fellowship will run from mid-2026 to the end of 2028. It features 12 intensive modules comprising seminars, mentoring sessions, professional visits, and collaborative projects with peers and mentors.

Programme Structure Includes:

  • Expert-led seminars and workshops
  • One-on-one mentoring sessions
  • Professional study trips
  • Group projects and collaborative tasks
  • Networking opportunities with leading media professionals
  • Certification upon completion

All modules are conducted in English, the programme’s official working language.

Fellowship Benefits

Who Can Apply

The fellowship targets young media professionals aged 25 – 35 (born between 1 June 1991 and 1 June 2001). Applicants should:

  • Have prior experience in journalism, media production, communication, or project management
  • Be motivated to develop and share media content that engages youth audiences, especially in rural areas
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in media innovation, community impact, and social storytelling
  • Possess excellent command of English
  • Be fully committed to participating in all scheduled modules and travel activities
