The ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme 2026–2027 is a prestigious, year-long global initiative designed to engage, empower, and support exceptional young digital leaders and changemakers who are driving impactful digital transformation within their communities.
Led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in partnership with Huawei, the programme offers young innovators the opportunity to receive mentorship, funding, and leadership training to implement or scale up digital development projects that contribute to a more connected and inclusive world.
About the ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme 2026–2027
The ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme 2026–2027 serves as a global platform that bridges the digital divide by empowering youth to lead innovative solutions aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through this initiative, ITU aims to equip young leaders with the necessary tools, knowledge, and financial resources to design and deliver impactful projects that advance digital inclusion and foster sustainable digital growth.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the programme:
- Be between 18 and 28 years old by the application deadline.
- Demonstrate a strong passion and track record in leading or implementing a digital development project.
- Be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a tertiary education programme in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or any other related discipline.
- Possess strong communication skills and be proficient in English, as the programme’s official working language is English.
Programme Benefits
Leadership Training and Mentorship
Successful candidates will participate in a year-long virtual leadership training programme organised by ITU, Huawei, and other strategic partners.
Participants will also have the exclusive opportunity to attend the in-person Global Development Week in Geneva, Switzerland, a flagship event that brings together top digital innovators, policy experts, and youth leaders to exchange knowledge and experiences.
Financial Support for Digital Projects
Each selected fellow will receive a grant of up to USD 10,000 to support the development and implementation of their digital project:
- An initial USD 5,000 grant will be disbursed to launch or scale the project.
- An additional USD 5,000 may be awarded based on project progress and measurable community impact assessed at the end of the programme.
This funding aims to help fellows transform innovative ideas into tangible solutions that create lasting social and economic benefits.

Selection Process
