About the UNODA Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship 2026

The UNODA Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship 2026 is a three-month hybrid programme that blends virtual learning with in-person engagement at the heart of multilateral diplomacy — Geneva.

It offers young experts from developing and middle-income countries the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of biosecurity, explore the challenges of biological disarmament, and contribute to strengthening the Biological Weapons Convention.

The fellowship promotes international cooperation, scientific responsibility, and youth engagement in addressing biological threats.

    Programme Components

    Online Component

The online component runs from 3 June to 1 July 2026, featuring a series of five interactive webinars led by biosecurity experts, diplomats, and UN officials.

    Participants will:

    • Engage in discussions on biosecurity, science diplomacy, disarmament, and global governance.
    • Collaborate on a scientific poster or joint project that will be presented during the in-person session in Geneva.
    • Network with peers from diverse backgrounds and regions to foster interdisciplinary exchange and cooperation.

    In-Person Component (Geneva, Switzerland)

From 17 to 21 August 2026, fellows will gather in Geneva during the BWC Working Group on the Strengthening of the Convention meetings.

During this immersive experience, fellows will:

    • Attend official BWC Working Group sessions and side events.
    • Participate in interactive workshops and policy simulations.
    • Meet with diplomats, scientists, and international organisations working on biosecurity, biosafety, and disarmament.
    • Gain first-hand exposure to multilateral diplomacy and policy-making processes at the international level.

    • Have strong proficiency in English (B2 level or above), both written and spoken.
    • Demonstrate motivation and commitment to contribute to the field of biosecurity and global health security.

Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Fellowship Benefits

The UNODA Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship 2026 is a fully funded opportunity. Selected fellows will receive:
