EJN Media Grants 2026 to Strengthen Reporting on Forest Governance Issues in Africa and Asia

    Deadline: February 26, 2026

The EJN Media Grants 2026 to Strengthen Reporting on Forest Governance Issues in Africa and Asia are now open for applications. This funding opportunity by the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) aims to boost high-quality media coverage and strengthen the capacity of journalists and media organisations to report effectively on forest governance issues across selected countries in Africa and Asia.

About the EJN Media Grants 2026

The EJN Media Grants 2026 to Strengthen Reporting on Forest Governance Issues in Africa and Asia seek to empower journalists and media outlets to produce impactful stories that address key forest governance challenges, policy issues, and community perspectives. Through this initiative, EJN hopes to enhance the overall quality, accuracy, and reach of environmental journalism in regions where forests are vital to livelihoods, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

This grant programme provides an excellent opportunity for media entities to develop innovative projects that bring attention to critical issues such as illegal logging, land rights, deforestation, sustainable forest management, and the inclusion of marginalised voices in governance discussions.

    Grant Objectives

    The programme aims to:

    • Strengthen the ability of journalists and media organisations to deliver evidence-based, solution-oriented reporting on forest governance.
    • Increase media coverage and public awareness of forest management policies, challenges, and potential reforms.
    • Amplify the voices of forest-dependent and marginalised communities affected by governance decisions.
    • Promote collaboration among journalists, media outlets, civil society organisations, and academic institutions to advance transparent and accountable forest governance.

    Grant Details

A total of nine (9) grants will be awarded under this programme, with at least one grant per eligible country. Each grant recipient will receive up to ยฃ10,000 to implement their proposed project. The funding can be used to support investigative reports, multimedia storytelling, training sessions, and other creative approaches to strengthen forest governance reporting.

    • Media organisations and journalist networks based in any of the following countries:
      • Liberia
      • Ghana
      • Cameroon

      • Indonesia

Applications from journalism schools, civil society groups, and academic institutions that collaborate with professional journalists are also welcome. However, priority will be given to established media entities with a proven track record of impactful reporting.

    Focus Areas

Applicants are encouraged to propose projects that highlight:

    • Policy gaps, governance failures, and innovative solutions in forest management.
    • The intersection of forest governance with climate change, biodiversity conservation, and land rights.
    • The experiences and perspectives of communities most affected by deforestation and poor governance.
    • Efforts to hold institutions accountable and promote transparency in forest-related decision-making.

    Grant Value and Duration

Each selected organisation will receive up to ยฃ10,000 in funding to implement activities over an agreed project timeline. The grant is expected to support capacity building, collaborative reporting, and the production of high-impact stories that inspire change.

    Application Deadline

    ๐Ÿ“… Deadline: 26 February 2026

All applications must be submitted through the official EJN application portal before the closing date. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
