Deadline: March 31, 2026
The Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists (YLACES) Grant 2026 is now open for applications! This grant programme supports environmental science education and empowers educators and organisations to engage young people in authentic environmental research and data collection activities.
The YLACES Grant 2026 seeks to eliminate barriers that prevent educators from guiding students in conducting meaningful environmental science projects. Through this initiative, YLACES aims to nurture scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and practical research skills among young learners globally.
About the YLACES Grant 2026
The YLACES Grant 2026 is designed to encourage youth participation in environmental science through hands-on learning experiences. By funding projects that focus on real-world environmental issues, the grant enables students to investigate, analyse, and contribute data that can make a tangible impact in their communities.
The programme provides financial support for educational initiatives that inspire students to become environmental stewards through citizen science projects.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to:
- U.S. educators and educational organisations
- International environmental educators or organisations involved in youth environmental research (subject to eligibility conditions)
Both individuals and institutions working with young learners are encouraged to apply. International applicants must demonstrate alignment with YLACES goals and meet endorsement requirements.
What the Grant Covers
The YLACES Grant 2026 provides funding support based on applicant type and scope of the proposed activities.
🇺🇸 For U.S. Applicants
- Up to $1,500 for purchasing equipment and supplies needed for student-led environmental research projects.
- Up to $5,000 for organising local Student Research Symposia (SRS) – one-day events where students present their research, receive feedback, and engage with STEM professionals and peers.
🌐 For International Applicants
- Up to $1,500 for purchasing instruments, materials, and supplies that facilitate youth-driven environmental research and data collection.
- International applicants must secure an endorsement from the GLOBE Program Country Coordinator in their country before submission.
Key Expectations
To qualify for funding, proposed projects must:
- Involve environmental research activities (not merely observation or theoretical learning).
- Encourage students to engage actively in scientific inquiry and data collection.
- Include a mentoring or coaching component, guiding students through the entire research process.
- Ensure that results are shared publicly, such as through open data platforms, school websites, or community forums.
Projects are expected to inspire curiosity, environmental awareness, and evidence-based problem-solving skills among young participants.
